Protection Officer
Project: Strengthening Women’s and Youth Livelihoods and Well-being in Gaza
Location: Middle Area /Khan-Younis
Organization: MA’AN Development Center
Duration: 8 months
Job Purpose
The Protection Officer will support the integration of protection principles across all project activities and ensure that interventions are implemented in a safe, inclusive, and protection-sensitive manner. The officer will contribute to strengthening safeguarding systems, supporting psychosocial and protection activities, will Oversee the safeguarding framework, supervise Women’s Safety Champions, manage protection referrals, and ensures Do No Harm and PSEA principles are upheld
Key Responsibilities
1. Protection Mainstreaming
· Ensure the integration of protection principles across project activities.
· Support the team in applying Do No Harm and protection-sensitive programming approaches.
2. PSEA and Safeguarding
· Ensure that safeguarding/PSEA policies and reporting mechanisms are in place and accessible
3. Psychosocial Support and Referral
· Coordinate with counselors to support psychosocial well-being activities.
· Support in Identifying protection concerns among beneficiaries and ensure safe referrals to specialized services.
· Support the development and maintenance of referral pathways for protection and mental health services.
4. Community Engagement
· Supervise Women’s Safety Champions who will work as protection focal points.
· Support community-based protection approaches.
5. Capacity Building
· Conduct focused capacity-building sessions for the selected Women’s Safety Champions, covering GBV risk mitigation, survivor-centered approaches, referral mechanisms, safeguarding, and Psychological First Aid (PFA)
Requirements
• Bachelor’s degree in psychology, social work or related fields.
• Minimum 3 years of experience in protection, safeguarding, or gender programming.
• Experience working with women and youth in humanitarian or conflict contexts.
• Knowledge of PSEA, GBV, and protection mainstreaming principles.
• Strong communication and facilitation skills.
